My Story
Cassandra Rone Freeman was born in Washington, DC’s Foggy Bottom at the former Columbia Hospital for Women. She attended public schools in the District of Columbia, and Howard University where she majored in Political Science and minored in History. She continued her education at the University of Maryland’s Global Campus where she majored in Business Administration earning a B.S. and an M.S. in Management with a
concentration in Procurement. She earned an M.S.A. in Public Administration from Central Michigan University.
Ms. Freeman has been very active in civic and community organizations, having served as the Assistant Secretary, Membership Chair, and the 1st Vice President of the Prince George’s County NAACP. She served as President of the Southern Prince George’s Business and Professional Women. She was honored with the 2000 Woman of the Year Award for “Outstanding achievement in BPW in her career and the Community.”
She is a member of the PGC National Council of Negro Women, Inc., the League of Women Voters of Prince George's, and the Top Ladies of Distinction of Prince George's County. Ms. Freeman retired from Federal service after 33 years having served as the Director of Small Business, Deputy Director of Small Business, and Director of Procurement Policy. In 2018 she was appointed by former Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks to the Prince George’s Commission for Women.
Her proudest achievements are completing the prestigious Leadership Maryland in 2018 and co-founding and chartering the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Southern Maryland Chapter in 2023.
